Thank you, works fine for me in Debian inside gnome-terminal:
$ LC_ALL=cs_CZ.utf8 gnome-terminal -x emacs -nw FILE
Note also that this line (working with old linux distributions) should NOT be present in .emacs:
(standard-display-european t) ;; WRONG
I'm using callouts to java code to do the more complex things. ie

[java classname="org.benow.web.ResourceUtility"]
      [classpath refid="compile.classpath"/]
    [/java]

I am using ant for compilation, but only after the fact. Eclipse does everything during development. I also tend to do more things at runtime, rather than relying on building caches during compile time... ie lists of what files are where, what mappings are available, etc. This makes for a slower initial startup, but also means that there is nothing to get out of sync... new code changes are immediately seen, and the build scripts don't have to worry about doing the generation. This reduces the complexity of ant.

I see a similar problem with XSL. It's nice to have a language that manipulates XML well, but logical constructs (if then case variables, etc) are too verbose and difficult to work with. With XSL you can't even change a variable once it's been set... wtf. I still use it, tho, as it works well with XML.

    Ant is indeed a failure, as the author (James Duncan Davidson) admits. He has moved on to using rake, which is (as you surmise) an extension of a commonly-used general-purpose language. Ruby in this case.

I think the problem is that there's no way to extend the Java syntax to allow there to be a 'jake'. And Ant is probably at least better than make.

    Stumbled across your blog/post very randomly while searching 'harassing telemarketers' at my job (drum roll please...as a telemarketer) ANYWAY, DON'T harass telemarketers. Not because I am one or even because I condone this, BUT, if you catch an irate one on a bad day, god help you. Typically when we call we have every bit of information about you save for your social security number. To sum it up, we know where you live when we call you. Catch one teetering on the edge of sanity and it will only mean bad news for you in the long run.

    Everything you said is absolutely right. You ennumerated exactly how I felt about each of the good points of the original design versus all the bad things about the new design.

Sadly, I believe the Java clock they use is based on my computer's time--which is sadly off. I'd check that, but I'm at work and my poor Mac G3 takes a year and a day to load a Java applet.

I sent CT an e-mail when they changed the site, but they didn't respond and they certainly didn't make any improvements.

Hours? Man, I feel like people respond more quickly to my twitters than to my IMs. I forget how instatneous Twitter is, and then someone sends me a message that makes me think they're reading my mind.
