Yeah... apparently, having exactly the same rights as heterosexual folk is "special rights". Talk about circular reasoning. Let's not forget how we want to make paedophilia legal... could the attempt to exploit people's visceral reactions to a completely unrelated issue be any more blatant?
Even if you believe that homosexuality is immoral (and I certainly don't) -- these guys need to wake up, smell the coffee, and learn the meaning of real Christianity. I believe there's a lot more in the Bible about loving your neighbor than there is about influencing politics.
Conservative Christians, as a group, need to go out and meet some real gay and lesbian folk on the street. They need to realise that we're not all about sex and drugs (though a few are, just like in the heterosexual world.) They also need to realise that we're honest, well-meaning, loving people who more often than not grow up in honest, well-meaning Christian homes. We don't rise up out of tar pits as the hell-bent, child-raping, family-destroying spawn of Satan.
What it comes down to is that they want to take a "moral stand" on something without it costing them anything. They've chosen a scape goat group -- in this case, homosexuals. You won't see them go after adultery, or pornography, or divorce and remarriage, even though there's much more Biblical evidence against those, because those things all happen in the church (and they might actually have to put their conduct where their mouths are.) No, they've chosen a scape-goat group to use as a shock-tactic for all other manner of conservative politics and corporate profits. They chose queers. It could just as easily have been blacks or Jews... It's a hate-filled sham, folks. Wake up!
FOTF is a propaganda/hate group. It doesn't make a judge "activist" to stand up against that.
Those of you in the States? Come on up to Canada. It's a little chillier some times of the year, but not half as chilly as the hearts of some of your politicians.
Focus on the Family is great and no one there is committing adultery!! God Bless them....they have a great book about marriage lasting, etc. written by a married couple James & Shirly Dobson.
